It’s a new year, a new beginning. Okay, it’s February. But still, you can proclaim a new beginning anytime you want. Any time that works for you. Create your own Super Goal and begin.
Did you make a new year’s resolution? Have you been waiting for the right time to begin again to work toward one or more goals? Or have you already given up? You don’t have to wait until next January to start again. Find a meaningful date for a start (or a re-start) and a finish-by.
There are lots of reasons why we give up: the goal is too complicated and overwhelming or seems impossible, the work is boring, it’s really someone else’s goal for us, we don’t know how to get support to stay motivated, we don’t know how and where to begin. If you tell someone your goal and say you are struggling, you might end up feeling foolish or weak. Maybe there’s not enough time to accomplish what you intend by a certain deadline.
Maybe the goal really is too big and needs to be broken down into segments.
A goal without a plan is just a dream. So, what’s the goal and what’s the plan? What can you commit to? What’s your intention? A plan can be baby steps.
What’s your super goal right now? What’s most important to you? Or maybe, what achievement is most easily attainable and will give you a boost? And what might be the steps you need to take to score a “touchdown”!
Your super goal might be:
Quit smoking. Lose weight. Become a better speaker or conversationalist or negotiator. Get out more and meet more people. Find more alone time and less obligations.
Pick one super goal to start. Ask yourself:
If you’re not sure how to start, just take one step. Any step toward your goal. No matter how small. Find what works for you. Don’t listen to the little voice that tells you it’s not enough.
Have regular conversations with yourself (or someone you trust). Talk about what you want, what you’ve done this week to move closer to your goal. Could your plan be improved upon? What will be your next step?
Keep your eye on the ball and keep advancing it a bit each day. Sometimes you will be stuck in place or lose some ground. Try again. Keep moving toward your winning touchdown!
